The Focus 40 Blue is a portable Bluetooth wireless Braille display designed by Blind people, for Blind people. The maker, Freedom Scientific, consulted it’s employees for feedback about how to improve the product.

It allows people with visual impairments to read and edit documents on their computers, check email and surf the web. Think of it as an alternative keyboard specially designed for people with visual impairments. This new Freedom Scientific product expanded on a older version and combines the latest Braille technology, a keyboard, USB and Bluetooth connectivity in a compact and lightweight design. It’s 37% smaller than the older version, so it’s small enough to store in a book bag or briefcase with a laptop computer. You can use BrailleIn to enter Contracted Braille and then switch display modes to perform all keyboard commands with the device and have complete control over your personal computer. Some features are listed below:

  • The Focus 40 Blue uses a 8-dot style Braille keyboard.
  • It works with JAWS BrailleIn for Contracted Braille input for Windows and Apple computers and iOS devices.
  • It has the capability to connect to a USB.
  • It has a smooth, paper like texture.
  • You can charge the battery via USB.
  • It works with Talks and Mobile Speak.
