Today I am reviewing the iDex.  This assistive technology device is no ordinary magnifier.  It’s easy to use, lightweight, requires no batteries and contains so many options for optimal use.  Let’s take a closer look, shall we?

After plugging everything in, I mounted the camera to its base and unfolded it so that it was looking directly over the item I wanted to read.  The base is weighted and doesn’t slide all over the place while you adjust the camera, which is always a plus.  The software installation is quick and painless, and before you know it, you’re ready to use the iDex!

The image on my computer screen was upside-down due to the position of my camera.  Rather than hassle with trying to reposition the camera, I simply clicked on the “Rotate Image” until the image appear right-side-up.  I changed the size and position of the window to my comfort level.  Next, I adjusted the contrast and brightness to make the print easier to see.  You can also adjust the tint, saturation, sharpness, and zoom in or out.  I waved my hand under the camera and noticed just how clear the image shows up on the screen.  Thanks to the snapshot feature on the iDex, I was able to take a picture, save it, edit it, and share it with you!

One feature I found particularly impressive was the ability to change the color of the image on-screen.  You can choose to view the natural color, positive (black and white) or negative (black and white reversed).  In the positive and negative color modes, the foreground and background colors can be altered.  I selected purple and black, as seen below.

The last thing I wanted to test out on the iDex, was to see how well it would pick up on smaller documents, such as a business card.  So I pulled out my Pool Pass and held it under the camera.  Thanks to the auto-focus feature, I could clearly pick up the details of the card on my computer screen.

So there’s a run-down of some basic features of the iDex.  Hopefully this review gave you some idea of how this magnifier operates.  If not, please feel free to visit this website for more information.
