Hey there! Welcome to Accessibility Minute, your weekly look at Assistive Technology, those clever tools and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing or other special needs!

For 20 plus years, HIMS, Inc. has been a global manufacturer and distributor of devices for individuals with visual impairments. One of their newer devices is the BrailleSense Polaris.

The BrailleSense Polaris is a powerful notetaker jam-packed with features. According to its description, “Polaris is an innovative collaboration of Braille and mainstream technology offering the blind and visually impaired unprecedented accessible and intuitive productivity in today’s tablet-based world.”

The Polaris features a 32-Cell Braille display and an 11-key Perkins-style keyboard. Unlike other BrailleSense devices, this one features CTRL and ALT keys.

Other features of the BrailleSense Polaris include:

  • Android Lollipop operating system
  • As Android continues to grow, the device will grow with it so users will always stay contemporary
  • Customize your device with the apps that fit your lifestyle
  • Connect and communicate with your world wherever you go
  • And so much more!
