Over the last ten years, Davies Roberts has been developing loudspeakers, headphones, earphones, and even ear protectors. More recently, his company, Flare, released Flare Calmer.
Flare Calmer is made from silicone and easily pops in your ear. It is worn in addition to headphones to increase the quality of sound. Additionally, it also lowers the distortion of sound (e.g. like on public transportation). By doing so, it in turn “drastically decreases your stress.”
Here’s more information behind the technology:
“Calmer reduces resonance (distortion) by using a tiny waveguide inside our ears that removes the effect of the Concha. The Concha is the small shell shape that connects to our ear canal which normally resonates mid frequency sounds.
By removing this resonance, Calmer dampens the most common alert-triggering noises such as phone alerts, dogs barking, tube trains, slamming doors and sudden loud vocal noises. Also, mid frequency sounds have none of their normal painful aspects.”
The device is available in standard and mini sizes. Standard fits most, while Mini is for individuals who know they have small ear canals. Both models do the same thing, the only difference is size!
Flare also offers Calmer Night, which is made from the softest possible silicone for ultimate comfort. While the original Calmer is made for daytime use and upgrading audio, the Calmer Night device is for nighttime use and is used for sleeping.
