Hey there! Welcome to Accessibility Minute, your weekly look at Assistive Technology, those clever tools, and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing, or other special needs!

A newer artificial intelligence (AI) app is available to help individuals with visual impairments.  MyFinder is a free-to-download iOS app that allows users to hear surrounding objects, text and scene descriptions, and more.

According to the App Store:

“MyFinder AI provides audio descriptions of objects and navigation guidance towards them.  It reads out text and describes a scene in the frame…”

To use the app, simply hold your phone’s camera towards any text, your surroundings, objects, people, or products and the app will describe it to you.

Other features include:

  • Realtime object explorer allows you to instantly hear the names of the objects in the frame
  • Immediate human support is available 24/7
  • With newer phones, the app provides a digital cane to users who are blind, notifying them of obstacles in the way
