AgrAbility Workshop to Explore Assistive Technology and Old Order Communities

AgrAbility Workshop

Agriculture can be physically demanding work, especially for individuals living with disabilities, injuries or chronic health conditions. Programs like AgrAbility help connect farmers, ranchers and agricultural workers with tools, resources and assistive technology that can help them continue working safely and independently.

This June, a Regional AgrAbility Workshop in Shipshewana, Indiana will focus on supporting individuals from Old Order communities and improving understanding between service providers and agricultural families.

The workshop will feature presentations and discussions centered around building respectful working relationships, understanding cultural considerations and identifying appropriate assistive technology solutions for agricultural settings.

Participants will hear directly from a panel of farmers who will share insights about their culture and experiences. The event will also include discussions about:

  • Building relationships within Old Order communities
  • Assistive technology considerations and applications
  • Real-world experiences from AgrAbility staff working with clients from these communities

In addition to presentations, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in tours of a farm and a business owned by members of Old Order communities.
