Communicating with Touch Through the DOT Pad

DOT Pad

The DOT Pad is a digital tool that helps visually impaired users experience their drawings and writing through touch. This multiline braille and tactile graphics display can connect to devices via Bluetooth.

Content Capabilities

As its website states: “With its powerful 300-cell tactile graphics display paired with a 20-cell braille display, the DOT Pad lets users explore shapes, maps and text with a level of detail and clarity never before possible.”

The DOT Pad is particularly helpful for young students. It makes subjects like math, science and geography more accessible by turning abstract concepts into tactile experiences. “From exploring simple shapes to understanding maps, it gives children the confidence to learn alongside their peers without barriers.”

In adult workspaces, the DOT Pad breaks down accessibility barriers to documents, spreadsheets and web content, thus improving productivity and independence.

By using the complimentary DOT Canvas app, users can upload graphics or connect to devices they already use, and both will appear instantly on the DOT Pad. You can even upload PDFs and photos on the Pad as well. And with the help of the app, users can create, modify, save and share their content.

With the Helpful Use of Partners

Developed by NV Access, NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA) delivers speech and Braille output through the DOT Pad, enabling visually impaired users to accessibly navigate and interact with Windows applications. Another complimentary partner is Apple. With Apple’s VoiceOver screen reader, users can output images and applications onto the DOT Pad as tactile information.
