Luna Glass

Luna Glass started by accident. When Founder Karst Hoogsteen was cycling across the Harvard Medical School campus one day, he rode right into a ditch because he couldn’t visually distinguish it from the shadows ahead. As he was standing in the mud, Hoogsteen decided to devote his career to developing glasses for other people with vision impairment.

Designed for use at night or in low-light areas, the glasses use a built-in full-color camera to project a brighter image over your natural field of view in real time.

Luna Glass recently received an email that shows the enormous impact these glasses can have on people of all ages. Nicky wrote: “Our family cannot thank you all enough for these life-changing glasses. Both my husband (58) and daughter (18) have Retinitis Pigmentosa. Opening and trying the glasses for the first time today was better than Christmas morning. I have never seen my husband so excited. He said, ‘All my life, I’ve always wondered how everyone else sees and now I know.’ He is actually looking forward to nighttime for the first time in his life.”

Although the glasses are largely presented as a solution for night blindness, they also help with high contrast between sunlight and shadow even on a bright day.
