When Lumin Co-Founder and CEO Sriram Ganesh began losing his central vision, “email became impossible.” While he admired screen readers, voice tools felt more natural — like an office assistant relaying messages and helping him respond.
Lumin is currently an iPhone app with Gmail compatibility. Powered by AI, Lumin is a voice assistant that speaks in a variety of accents and speeds. Once you connect it to your Gmail account, managing your emails with it is as simple as pressing a button.
Like a co-worker sharing a desk with you, Lumin guides you through your inbox, summarizes or fully reads any message, identifies potential spam, forwards messages to other contacts, etc. It even writes responses for you, but it’s not a typist to whom you need to dictate every word. You can ramble off the top of your head, and Lumin will turn your thoughts into a polished message.
Lumin is currently working on integrating Google Calendar, which will help users to an even greater extent.
“Once we add Calendar, you can call Lumin in the morning or it can call you in the morning and you just get a structured briefing of, ‘Hey, here are things that matter to you. Here are the meetings. Here’s how your day is looking,’” Ganesh said. “You can also give it your priorities. And so it can say, “Hey, you wanted to work on these things, but I don’t see any time on your calendar. So, should I try and block some time for you to do your work so that your calendar doesn’t get hijacked?’ Everyone’s trying to get in touch with you, whether it’s important people or spam or newsletters — everyone’s trying to take over your inbox. Lumin’s trying to find what really matters so you don’t have to drown in that stuff and miss important things.”
Lumin is now available on the App Store.
