Gadget Camp Volunteers Needed

Every year we are fortunate enough to host a week long camp at Butler University for kids with disabilities. This will be our 5th year of camp and it is our favorite week of the year. Our camp is for kids from the ages of 10-16 who use augmentative communication devices or other assistive technology. The kids have varying degrees of needs. We typically have 10-12 campers for a full day of camp that lasts from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year our camp will be held the week of June 23rd and will run through June 27th.

At Gadget Camp kids who use assistive technology get to participate in many fun activities including crafts, fishing, camp songs and entertainment we bring in such as balloon making, magicians, animal show, canvas painting, et cetera. We provide at least one volunteer if not two per camper to assist in all these activities. All of our volunteers have reported that this is one of the most rewarding experiences of their year. We have a lot of fun and provide a great experience for kids who may otherwise not be able to go to a traditional camp.

Our volunteers should plan to arrive at Butler at 8:30 a.m. and expect to stay until 4 p.m. We prefer to have volunteers that can volunteer the entire week so the kids get comfortable with the volunteers. However, if you only have the availability to help a few days or even for a day we would love for you to be part of this wonderful experience.
