AM065 – Environmental Control Units or Electronic Aids to Daily Living (ECU/EADL)

Play

Hi folks. Welcome to “Accessibility Minute”, your weekly look at Assisitive Technology—those clever tools and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing or other special needs.

Think about how many times today you’ve flipped a light switch, adjusted the thermostat, changed the TV channel or used some switch or remote to change something in your environment.  For some people with mobility impairments, it isn’t possible to physically connect with those switches and other controls.  The world of Environmental Control Units or Electronic Aids to Daily Living changes all of that.  With voice controls, switches, simplified interfaces these devices allow people with mobility impairments to have more control over lights, fans, televisions and the like.  Check our show notes to learn more about this important type of technology.
