Hi folks. Welcome to “Accessibility Minute”, your weekly look at Assisitive Technology—those clever tools and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing or other special needs.
When springtime arrives, for much of the world, storms come along too. In some areas there is a risk of tornados, severe thunderstorms or other weather-related disasters. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration provides information on special needs weather alert radios designed to inform people who are Deaf or hard of hearing in the event of a weather-related emergency. These radios have the ability to flash and vibrate to signal the presence of an alert as well as a text display to provide important information such as “tornado watch” or “thunderstorm warning”.
