Boogie Board eWriter

Remember doodling on an Etch-a-Sketch when you were a child?  And how satisfying it was to shake it to erase your image, so you can create another doodle?  The Boogie Board eWriter is fun like this but is a wee bit easier to write/doodle on and is ideal to eliminate paper, sticky notes and more!  So what is the Boogie Board exactly?

Well, according to the company, writing on a Boogie Board is comparable to writing on paper with a pen.  You have probably already written on a tablet or smartphone using a stylus, so you know it isn’t equivalent to writing with pen and paper.  However, the Boogie Board eWriter utilizes a reflective, pressure-sensitive, plastic liquid crystal display (LCD).  Images are then created on the Boogie Board by using a stylus, fingernail, or other instrument.  Further, it “utilizes a direct, free form method to create an image that simulates the experience of handwriting or drawing with pencil on paper.  Line width is proportional to the amount of pressure applied, just like pencil and paper.”

To clear the screen, simply press the erase button.  Pressing the erase button “tells the electronics, which are powered by a coin cell watch battery, to erase the image by applying an electric field to the LCD.”

There are a few eWriters available by Boogie Board, but their newest model, Jot 8.5 allows users to edit, save and share using the first ever Jot App.  The high contrast writing allows the Jot App to separate the writing from the background and create a black and white file to edit, save, and share.  It automatically locates the Jot 8.5 eWriter’s outline, or you can control the scanning yourself in manual mode.  The saved files can then be accessed anywhere you go!

Other features of the Boogie Board Jot 8.5:

  • New model features 50% brighter writing: “Years in development, the new high contrast writing surface creates an almost luminescent line.”
  • Very thin and lightweight style and design
  • Durable construction ideal for all ages at office, school, home or on the go
  • Built in magnets
  • Replaceable coin-cell battery that lasts up to 50,000 erases
  • Built-in stylus dock doubles as a convenient kickstand message board.
  • Jot App available on Google Play and iTunes!
