The Joy of the Oticon EduMic

Oticon EduMic

The Oticon EduMic is changing the way we connect with people who are hard of hearing. If you’re a teacher, imagine your voice cutting through the clatter of a classroom and directly reaching a student’s hearing aids. Or if you’re a parent, imagine cooking at home and your child being able to hear you over the sizzle of a frying pan.

Anyone can wear this small microphone, which easily attaches to a lapel or collar. It also comes with an adjustable lanyard, so you can wear it around your neck as well. The device wirelessly transmit the user’s voice to someone’s headphones or hearing aids.

This device is bringing joy to children, teachers and parents alike. Take Gabby, for instance. Her kindergarten teacher said, “I can vividly remember the day Gabby got her EduMic. I turned it on, not knowing what to expect, and I just said, ‘Hi, Gabby,’ and her face lit up. In kindergarten, you’re learning the alphabet and sounds. So, once we got the EduMic, we were able to sit down and do some one-on-one work and catch Gabby up with the rest of the class.”

Gabby's dad, Johnny

Gabby’s dad, Johnny, noticed a big change as well.

“Once we started using the EduMic, I definitely noticed a joy,” he said. “She perked up, her eyes sparkled. It definitely brightened things in her everyday life. We use it at home when there is a lot of background noise. For instance, we use it when we’re cooking in the kitchen or when we’re in different rooms of the house. Having the EduMic on allows us to talk quite easy, whether playing at the park or playing sports where there’s the potential for interference from the wind or many kids around. The EduMic allows me to speak directly to Gabby.”

Oticon EduMic is currently available for educators to borrow through the ATLAS Project Library. For more information about the device, click here.
