Clinical Assistive Technology Services

Since 1979, Easterseals Crossroads has been Indiana’s premier provider of Assistive Technology Services.  Our clinical services, available statewide, are the hallmark of our program and have been available for almost 40 years.

Assistive Technology Evaluation and Training

Evaluation: A qualified Assistive Technology professional meets with someone with a disability to assess their technological needs as they relate to employment, education, or community needs.  This service typically takes 4-6 hours and results in a detailed and structured report that includes recommended equipment, training, or other services.

Consultation: Like an evaluation, but typically shorter in nature and less comprehensive, this service allows for brief interventions by a qualified Assistive Technology professional. Reports typically take the form of a memorandum and focus on a single aspect of an individual or organization’s needs.

Technical Support: Easterseals Crossroads’ Assistive Technology professionals are well trained in supporting a number of Assistive Technology devices and software. Our 24-hour technical support line (317-466-2013 or 888-466-1314) allows users of Assistive Technology to receive the support they need around the clock.

Training: Our staff provides a wide variety of individual and small class training designed to teach the user how to use their technology on the job, at home, or in school.  In 2012, we expanded our training services by offering comprehensive online instruction as well.

Easterseals Crossroads has been a leading provider of advanced Assistive Technology services since 1979. Over the years, we have helped hundreds of employers create more disability-inclusive workplaces by providing guidance and support throughout the employee accommodation process.

Assistive Technology Training: Easterseals Crossroads provides assistive technology training for employers focused on tools, devices, and techniques used by persons with vision, mobility, hearing, or other special needs in the workplace. This training helps employers keep up-to-date with the latest advancements in the field of assistive technologies.

Assistive Technology Coaching: Easterseals Crossroads offers assistive technology coaching to support employers throughout the accommodation process.  As employers consider proper workplace supports for associates, our team of professionals is able to come alongside and provide expert advice to ensure appropriate supports are provided.

Assistive Technology Consultation: Depending on the nature of the disability; the situation being accommodated, the tool or solution being implemented; or other relevant factors a deeper knowledge of disability and assistive tools, devices, and accommodations may be needed. In these situations, our team of professionals is able to work directly with associates to identify solutions by providing assistive technology consultation.

Indiana Agrability

Indiana AgrAbility is a USDA-sponsored program that assists farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural workers with disabilities. While the term “disability” often brings to mind conditions such as spinal cord injuries and amputations, AgrAbility addresses not only these but also many other conditions, such as arthritis, back impairments, and behavioral health issues.

Through education and assistance and direct services, AgrAbility helps to eliminate (or at least minimize) obstacles that inhibit success in production agriculture or agriculture-related occupations.

Why does the program have two names? Purdue University began serving farmers with disabilities in 1979, and the program became known as Breaking New Ground. Later, in 1990, Congress created the AgrAbility Program, and Breaking New Ground received the grant to lead the Indiana AgrAbility Project. Therefore, since some people know the program as Breaking New Ground and others as AgrAbility, both names are used.
