Using an Android phone’s camera and generative AI, the app Lookout helps guide blind or low-vision users through everyday life. To ensure optimal quality, it was built in collaboration with the blind and low-vision community.
Lookout offers seven modes:
Text: For example, this allows users to scan their mail and hear it read aloud.
Documents: Capture a whole page of text or handwriting. Available in over 30 languages.
Explore: Identify objects, people and text in surroundings.
Currency: Identify cash bills quickly and reliably, with support for U.S. Dollars, Euros and Indian Rupees.
Food labels: Identify packaged foods by their label or barcodes. Available in over 20 countries.
Find: Scan surroundings to find objects like doors, bathrooms, cups, vehicles, and more. Find mode can also tell the direction and distance to an object, depending on device capabilities.
Images: Capture, describe and ask questions about an image. Image descriptions and Q&A available globally in English only.

Lookout is available in more than 30 languages, and it runs on devices with Android 6 and above.
