The Indianapolis Marion County Public Library (IMCPL) offers several assistive services at their Central Library location (40th East St. Clair Street, Indianapolis).
Accessible Entrances: The 9th street entrance is wheelchair accessible.
Garage:
- 13 accessible parking spots are located on each level of the parking garage.
- Parking fees can be paid at accessible locations near the elevators in the Atrium and each parking level.
- All levels are accessible by elevators, located in the Atrium and tower.
Amenities:
- All public computers and catalog stations are equipped with Windows Magnifier. Magnifying glasses and trackballs are available upon request at the Information Desk on each floor.
- An ADA compliant copy machine and printer are located on the 5th floor.
- Baskets and carts are provided for patron use throughout the library.
- NEMO, a handheld magnifier, is available for in-house use at the 3rd floor Information Desk and may be checked out for a 4 hour period.
- MAX, a digital magnifier designed to be attached to a TV, is available for a three week loan period.
- A sign language interpreter will be made available upon request for library-sponsored programs. Please contact the library at 317-275-4805 to submit your request at least two weeks prior to the event.
Assistive Technology Room: Located on the 3rd floor of the tower, the Assistive Technology Room provides equipment to enhance the library experience for patrons with disabilities. This room includes:
- Adaptive Workstation – this workstation provides a variety of features to assist patrons who have mobility, visual and learning disabilities. Included are special keyboards, mice, typing aids and arm supports.
- Software – Dragon Naturally Speaking, JAWS, MAGic, Magic Cursor, OpenBook, Screen Doors, WYNN
- Sorenson Video Relay Service is provided free to those who are Deaf or hard of hearing, enabling the user to communicate visually with family, friends, or business associates. Please see the staff member at the 3rd floor Information Desk for assistance with the room.
Large Type Collection: A portion of IMCPL’s large type collection is available in the Simon Reading Room on the main level of the Cret Building.
Books on Tape and CD:
- Fiction is located on the 3rd floor of the west wing of the Cret Building
- Non-fiction is located with the corresponding book collection, to the west of the scalators and new books on each floor of the tower
Downloadable Audio books:
- Audio books are available for downloading to your computer and supported listening devices (such as the VictorReader Stream)
- The loan period for digital audio books is 21 days
- Digital Talking Book and Braille Library
