Since the weather is perfect for outdoor adventures at the moment, we would like to highlight a Hoosier park that truly offers summer fun for everyone.
Designed with accessibility at top of mind, Murphy Aquatic Park in Avon boasts Central Indiana’s only fully ADA-accessible water playground, along with several other features for guests of all ages and ability levels.
“It is our goal to continue to provide diverse opportunities for recreation,” said Washington Township Park Director Lora Helmick. “The (water playground) is an asset to the community and truly makes this park a place for ALL to enjoy.”
All Set to Get Wet
All of the park’s water areas feature zero-depth entry for guests using wheelchairs or other mobility aids. Extra-wide ramps and bridges allow for smooth, safe navigation. In addition to accommodating wheelchairs, the park provides water wheelchairs onsite.
Higher structures splash water down to decks below, allowing everyone to enjoy getting wet. Splash pad features like sprayers, fountains and tipping buckets also give all guests a chance to interact with the water.

Waves of Calm
For guests with sensory sensitivity, the park offers Sensory Swim sessions every Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. During this time, the staff turns off the wave pool and limits capacity in several areas (the Activity Pool, Toddler Zone and Central Play Feature) to 50%, thus reducing noise and activity in the park.
Dry Summer Fun
Just outside of the waterpark is an accessible dry playground with features such as:
- Signs for non-verbal children
- Rest areas for children with sensory sensitivity
- A wheelchair-friendly merry-go-round
- Wheelchair swings
- Seated zipline
