With Thanksgiving and other family gatherings just around the corner, we could all use a little extra help in the kitchen. The Brava smart oven makes cooking easier for everyone — including blind and low-vision users.
Using Pure Light Technology to cook meals, the oven stays cool to the touch and safe for independent use. Six lamps deliver exact infrared light waves to transfer heat directly into the food itself. In other words, the lamps are so precise that they can focus on specific zones without heating the area around them. This means you can cook ingredients that require different amounts of heat all on the same tray — like a medium-rare steak with crispy roasted potatoes and gently cooked asparagus. There’s no need to clutter the kitchen with multiple pots and pans.
Another safety bonus is the fact that Brava allows users to do most of the meal prep from their phone.
With VoiceOver and TalkBack support, the Brava app talks users through the whole cooking process — from choosing a recipe and preparing ingredients to putting the meal on plates for your guests. The oven shuts off automatically when the meal is fully cooked.
Now is a fitting time to explore the Brava oven, as it was born out of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.
As Brava Vice President of Sales & Marketing Travis Rea said on Assistive Technology Update: “The original idea came from our co-founder Dan Yue’s mom. She was really busy cooking Thanksgiving dinner, and I think everybody can relate to this. The stress of trying to get everything done at the same time and have everything be hot, and it’s a lot of coordination especially when you’re doing multiple dishes. Dan’s mom said, ‘Hey, Dan, you’re a pretty smart guy. I’d really like you to think about creating a cooking robot that would know when everything’s done and shuts off automatically.’ That was the original idea in his head.”
