DayCape: Daily Visual Planning

DayCape “wants everyone to live in a world where they feel excited about the day ahead of them.”  DayCape is a fun and interactive digital image calendar that helps children with autism or other special needs, plan their day and make activities less intimidating.  The founder, Anton Håkanson, was diagnosed with autism as a young child, so he has an understanding for the daily issues that may occur.

He read several cartoons as a child to try to relate his unique characteristics.  His favorite hero growing up was Peter Parker, or Spiderman, who also struggled with his unique characteristics.

“Even with all the powers and spidersense, Peter had conflicting feelings about becoming Spiderman and how to use his powers.  As Spiderman, he is unable to save everyone and is struggling with feeling different and weak despite his unusual powers.  But Peter always had friends and family supporting him in the most difficult times that helped him become the great superhero he was meant to be.”

Anton goes on to explain how Spiderman inspired DayCape, “That is why I think DayCape needs to exist.  Just like Peter Parker, these children struggle with powers they don’t understand.  But with the right help from family and friends they can discover their own superpowers.”
